MARBLE SLAB CREAMERY

Thomas Jefferson's recipe for ice cream:

2 bottles good cream
6 yolks of eggs
2 pound sugar
1 stick of vanilla

The Marble Slab Creamery's recipe for ice cream:

Sorry, they're not telling.

Politicians may be blabby, but East Tennessee's Best ice cream shop keeps its base ingredients a secret. We do know that a "milk-mixture" is the starting place for the two-day process required to make Marble Slab's in-store-prepared ice creams.

From there, the customer is in charge of choosing the ice cream flavor and the "mixins" (from fresh fruit to nuts to candy bar pieces), which are then hand-blended on a frozen marble slab and ready to be scooped into a waffle cone (also freshly made on the premises and available in flavors ranging from honey wheat to chocolate-dipped and rolled in Butterfinger bits).

Runners-up: Baskin-Robbins, Bruster's Old-Fashioned Ice Cream & Yogurt
