BEST BARBERSHOP
WINNER

ODIS & CO.

10 Forest Court

Odis Duncan says people like his shop because "we're not an uptight hair salon." OK, he didn't actually say "uptight," but we're too uptight a newspaper to quote him correctly.

The shop's patrons weren't reserved about casting their votes. Odis & Co won Best Barbershop by a wide margin. And enough votes were cast in the Best Beauty Shop category to make it a runner-up there, as well.

Duncan started cutting hair 34 years ago at a shop on the Cumberland Avenue Strip. In the '70s, he helped bring the layered look to Knoxville as an instructor for the California Concept chain. He opened Odis & Co. eight years ago.

He says the five-chair shop has a homey atmosphere and an upscale clientele. "We do most of the doctors in town," says Duncan, "and lots of lawyers and high-end car salesman." And celebrities: Duncan has cut the hair of John Ward, the former "Voice of the Vols," for 30 years.

Runners-up: Ross the Boss & Co., Salon Visage and Mr. George Style & Barber Shop
