WINNER
This category is for all those wonderful people, places and things that might win ET's Best recognition if only more folks had heard of them.
Some of the entries are real undiscovered treasures.
Other "secrets" are a little more out in the open than their submitters think.
Finally, there are a few that are so deeply hidden, we're not even sure what the secret is.
Really, truly best-kept secrets:
* King Tut's Grill, 4132 Martin Mill Pike. The restaurant has a cult clientele who go for the great food and the unique atmosphere. Don't miss Egyptian Night.
* Cherohola Skyway: This highway connects the Cherokee and Nantahalla national forests (hence the portmanteau moniker). The drive offers mile-high overlooks and spectacular vistas. One of only 20 U.S. highways named a National Scenic Byway.
* Also: Best Little Italian Restaurant (Gatlinburg), Big South Fork, The Cove at Concord Park, Ijams Nature Center, Knox County Adult Home Economics Center, Planet Smoothie, Ripley's Haunted Adventure (Gatlinburg) and radio station WDVX (89.9 and 106.1 FM).
* Two secrets that got out: Marble Slab Creamery -- winner of our Best Ice Cream category. Cades Cove -- next time you visit, ask the folks in the traffic jam around you who blabbed about our Best Place for a Picnic winner.
* Secrets we're not in on: State income tax -- have we been paying one and didn't know it? J. Wade Gilley -- unless the former UT prez is behind the secret state income tax, we think he's pretty much an open book.
