BEST AMBASSADOR FOR EAST TENNESSEE
WINNER

PAT SUMMITT

Pat Summitt has led her Lady Vols to six NCAA women's basketball titles in the past 13 years. As a player, she helped the United States win an Olympic silver medal. As a coach, she brought home the gold -- it was the first gold medal ever for U.S. women's basketball.

To evaluate her performance as a spokesmodel for East Tennessee, we turned to an expert: Ambassabear, the official representative of the Bearfoot in the City outdoor bear-art display currently on view throughout downtown Knoxville.

How does Pat Summitt rate as an ambassador?

Ambassabear: "Pretty good. She's got strong wrists, so that helps when you're riding in a long parade. Waving can be a bear, y'know ... . Heh-heh! That line kills 'em at the Rotary Club."

Do you think being a sports celebrity makes Pat a good role model?

Ambassabear: "Well, I have to admit I don't see much basketball. I'll catch a game or two before hibernation, but that's it. However, I do have Pat's Sports Illustrated cover on my cave wall ... grrrrrrrowl!"

Finally, what advice can you give the coach?

Ambassabear: "Be positive. Be motivated. Be a winner ... and if all else fails, wear a funny hat and ride a unicycle. Crowds love that."

Runners-up: Peyton Manning, Dolly Parton and Tina Wesson
