PANERA BREAD

Various locations

The first thing you'll probably notice when walking into the bakery at Panera Bread is the smell.

Wafting about the room is the pleasant aroma of freshly brewed coffee blended with baking bread.

Then your other senses kick in. You'll see a wall lined with every kind of bread imaginable, from asiago cheese and French to tomato basil and three-seed sourdough. Then you'll notice the pastries, like the raspberry-cheese croissants and German chocolate Danish. Then you'll taste the free sample cinnamon roll.

Then, quite possibly, you'll faint. It's that good.

"We love our customers," says Cumberland Avenue location manager Cindy Scharba. "We're fairly new in Knoxville, and there's no one else doing quite what we're doing."
